Ang Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) nagdesisyon nga himuon nga national shrine ang
Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of the Assumption sa Maasin City. Ang maong desisyon gihimo kagahapon, Hulyo 6,
atol sa 128th plenary assembly sa CBCP nga gipahigayon sa Chai Conference Center sa Cagayan de Oro City.
Ang pag-designate sa simbahan sa Maasin ingon nga national shrine nag-ila sa kasaysayan ug relihiyosong

malampuson nga nagdumala sa usa ka 3-adlaw nga Capacity Building para sa Barangay Council for Protection of Children.
Ang maong kalihokan gitambungan sa mga Punong Barangay, Treasurer, Secretaries, Child Development Workers,
ug mga Committee Chairpersons sa Edukasyon gikan sa 70 ka-barangay ning atong dakbayan.

Ang maong kalihukan gipasiugdahan aron matabangan ang mga opisyales sa barangay nga mas mapalig-on ang
ilang abilidad ug kahibalo sa pagpanalipod sa mga katungod sa kabataan. Kini nga aksyon usa ka pagtubag sa prinsipyo
sa First Call for Children nga gipahayag sa United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, diin ang labing maayong
kahimtang sa mga kabataan ang nag-unang konsiderasyon sa tanang aksyon nga naglakip kanila, bisan pa kini gihimo sa
publiko o pribadong mga institusyon sa social welfare, mga korte sa balaod, mga awtoridad sa administratibo, ug mga legislative bodies.

The Anti-Spaghetti Wires Task Force continues its commitment to enhancing road safety and
minimizing visual clutter by systematically organizing utility cables across the city. Their recent operation
focused on Barangay Tagnipa to Tunga-tunga, along Tomas Oppus Street (UCCP Church to corner Ataviado Street),
as part of their ongoing efforts to tidy up urban landscapes.

and Miss Fah Carbonilla from Globe who serves as the team leader for partner telecommunications

𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 27, 2024 I DOST 𝘽𝙡𝙪𝙚 𝙀𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙢𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙪𝙢
The City Government of Maasin, through the leadership of City Mayor Nacional V. Mercado,
actively participated inthe 𝘽𝙡𝙪𝙚 𝙀𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙢𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙪𝙢 organized by
the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) as part of the Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Week (RSTW)
2024 in Tacloban City. The delegation, led by City Councilor Mikee Mercado, included Public Relations Officer Ma. Essie Garvez,
Planning and Development Officer Engr. Marietta Ancla, Information Systems Analyst Albert Maña,
Information Officer Lorainne Acasio, and LDRRMO 1 Heddy Carbonilla. This engagement underscores
Maasin City's commitment to supporting DOST's initiatives and its dedication to becoming a SMART city.
In recognition of Maasin's support, a check amounting to P500,000 was handed over to Councilor Mercado and the team.
Councilor Mikee Mercado has been a key mover and innovator, driving efforts to ensure Maasin's active participation in
initiatives that promote sustainability and smart city solutions. His leadership has been instrumental in aligning the city's
goals with national objectives. Additionally, the PRICTU Office, headed by Ma’am Essie Garvez, has provided unwavering
support, helping to foster a collaborative environment that embraces innovation and sustainable development.
The Blue Economy and Smart and Sustainable Communities Forum is one of the highlights of RSTW 2024, aiming to
transform Eastern Visayas into a more sustainable, innovative, and "Bluer" region. Dr. John Glenn Ocaña,
the OIC Regional Director, emphasized the importance of the sustainable use of ocean resources, improving
livelihoods, and preserving ocean ecosystems. The forum brought together experts, stakeholders, and policymakers
to focus on implementing smart solutions and fostering collaboration among different sectors.
The event also marked the official launch of nine smart and sustainable cities and municipalities across Eastern Visayas,
including Maasin City, heralding a new era of innovation and environmental stewardship in the region.
Maasin City's participation highlights its proactive stance in aligning with national objectives, promoting sustainability,
and contributing to a smarter and greener future.

MARCH 18, 2024 I STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS MAYOR NACIONAL V. MERCADO
Today, March 18, 2024, I delivered my State of the City Address (SOCA). The report I presented today
is deeply rooted in the foundational principles of 𝐍𝐀𝐂𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐄𝐋𝐒
—a framework meticulously crafted for inclusive development and guided by the ideals of the
𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬' 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 (𝐒𝐃𝐆𝐬).
The SDGs, a set of 17 interconnected global goals, represent a visionary roadmap
more prosperous and equitable world:

unwavering commitment to serving our people by striving for what is right, just, and sustainable in a global standard.
Likewise, I presented all the projects and programs implemented last year and lined up for next year.
I would like to thank all our partner agencies, Provincial Government of Southern Leyte led by our Governor Damian Mercado
and our Sangguniang Panlungsod, under the leadership of Vice Mayor Maloney Samaco, who has consistently served as a robust counterpart
to the executive department in all endeavors of the city.
As my term of office nears its conclusion, I commit to each and every one of you: I will leave no stone unturned in my mission to elevate
Maasin City to new heights. Despite the challenges that loom ahead, let us remember that true greatness emerges from resilience and collective effort.

This project is located near the Maasin Terminal in Brgy. Tagnipa, Maasin City.
This Proposed Two Storey Tourist Service Center with Pasalubong Display Center, Conference Room,
Coffee Shop, and AC Restroom accommodates PWD, and a branch of the Office of Tourism with a conference
